Racing the Sun

Racing the Sun

It was a chilly September morning at Keenland Racetrack in Lexington, Kentucky. The mists were just beginning to lift and the sun barely peeking above the horizon. Despite poor light, the two year olds were already on the track, training.

This energetic, young colt caught my attention. The mix of eager anticipation in his eyes and fantastic play of light and shadow on his body was irresistible. This wasn't a race, just an early morning practice, but he was ready to race the sun!

Racing the Sun won the prestigious Sam Savitt Award at the Fall 2005 American Academy of Equine Art Show.
